rhianne: Drabbles

Two drabbles in response to the Sarah McLachlan song titles challenge. Crossposted in ci5100 and my own journal.

He thought he'd never make it. In the dark days after Terri's death he'd looked around at the shattered remains of his family and resigned himself to existing, never finding another place to call home.

Now, leaning against the base of the sofa Chris looked around again at the faces of his friends and colleagues. Backup, Sam and Spencer all grinned back and raised their glasses, suitably merry in celebration of a job well done. His contentment was enough to finally banish his earlier fears. Against all odds, Chris had found a second family.

These people were his home now.

"I've asked Malone for a new partner."

Chris froze at the words, blood running cold at the expression on Sam's face.

He was serious.

Sure, things had been awkward since that stupid night when they'd both been too drunk to realise what they were doing, but Chris had never thought it would come to this.

He opened his mouth to protest, to convince Sam he was making a mistake but the icy, cold look in Sam's eyes told him it was pointless. He moved blindly to the door, mind frozen with shock.

This wasn't how it was supposed to end.

I'll post the next challenge tomorrow, to end next Sunday. You can still respond to old challenges once a new challenge has been issued. Meanwhile, here are my responses. I didn't manage to get them all done - too many shiny things to distract me, not to mention the site update and housework and stuff, but here's four of the sins anyway.

Author's notes: Some of these drabbles are slashy, surprise, surprise. Cross-posted to my LJ.

alyse: First challenge

Yes, I know I suck, but I'll try to get better and actually post these things.

This week's challenge - Seven Deadly Sins.

Choose one, or more, of the seven deadly sins - greed, wrath, lust, envy, sloth, gluttony, pride - and write 100 words. Kudos if you manage to use all seven in one drabble. Deadline is next Sunday.

rhianne: Drabble: Synchronicity

Ok, I'll kick this off with a drabble. :) Never done one before *g*

Spin. Aim. Fire. Spin.

Spin. Aim. Fire.

Chris spins back into hiding as cement explodes around him, listening for Sam's return fire. His heart sings as it comes after the anticipated pause, a melody they've sung together a thousand times. The sound comforts him in the knowledge that his partner is there backing him up as he always will. They know without checking where the other man will be, exactly how long it will take for each to reload, compensating for the other's weaknesses without conscious thought.

Spin. Aim. Fire. Spin.

The melody is over.

Woohoo! A new challenge :) I've never been very good at drabbles, don't have the patience necessary to get the words right within the word count - a puzzle to while away the dull hours at work, methinks *eg*
